OSCAR: This movie is an updated remake of one of my favorite all-time westerns – My Darling Clementine (1946) – starring Henry Fonda as Wyatt Earp and Victor Mature as Doc Holiday. Kurt Russell and Val Kilmer did a great job in this movie and it is entertaining. The only negative for me, and it is because of My Darling Clementine, is that this movie is a little too polished for a western in my opinion. I still loved it and the modern cast was very good. One of my favorite scenes has a ‘blink and you will miss it’ scene with Billy Bob Thorton who is younger and heavier than he is in ‘Landman’. I wanted to include Huckleberry Hound for a couple of reasons…One, Doc Holiday tells Johnny Ringo in this scene illustrated that he is his ‘Huckleberry’ and the other reason is I grew up with Hanna-Barbera cartoons and Huckleberry Hound was one of my favorites!!

EMMY: I grew up in the same era as Oscar and enjoyed the cartoons as well. Tombstone is a great movie and I for one, enjoy this modern western more that the old westerns that Oscar favors. He is yelling “blasphemy” behind me haha!!! Tell us your thoughts on this fantastic movie!!

I have to agree with Emmy on this one. Love tombstone but no desire to watch those older westerns. I bet My Darling Clementine is in black and white! No thanks. The comic is funny though. And RIP Val Kilmer. Gone too soon.

My biggest gripe actually comes from the cast. Not that they aren’t all excellent actors. But they are such big names it takes a bit away from the authenticity of the events they are trying to recreate. They could have created a fiction film with this great cast instead.

THAT is a great point, Earl. Maybe that ties into my TOO POLISHED FOR A WESTERN gripe. This is part of why I enjoy doing this bog. I love the give and take of opinions on these movies and tv shows. Thank you for your comment!!!

as an old time cowboy myself you can’t beat the likes of Henry Fonda and Victor Mature. I’m not a big fan of the newer westerns and remakes when the originals are perfect as they are.

Agree with you wholeheartedly that this is a bit too polished. Westerns is my favorite genre. Have you drawn any other westerns?

Hmmm. I think the only other westerns I drew (off the top of my head) is Blazing Saddles and Little House on the Prairie,

I love westerns. I grew up in Montana on a ranch before my dad moved us all to CA and a big city. I much prefer the ranch and want to go back there to live one day. You mentioned in another comment you might draw Landman. I’d be excited to see that one. Such a great series.
