H.R. Pufnstuf (1969)

Oscar: Well it was a wild time to be a kid in the 60’s/70’s.. This show had to have been created while everyone involved was stoned…there is no other logical explanation!!! H.R. Pufinstuf was prime pre-adolescent viewing back in the day…of course than was when we had 3 channels.

Emmy: Oscar is right about being a kid in those days. Not many choices but we did have freedoms…we could be out with our friends unsupervised until the streetlights came on…then it was time to get home fast!! I liked this show … it was colorful, fun and creative (for back then). There were no computers, no big special effects…it made you use your imagination in ways that are faded into the past…sigh…

this is fabulous. You have me walking down memory lane. A boy named Jimmy and his talking flute, Freddy, are lured to Living Island by a mysterious boat, where they are taken in by the dragon mayor H.R. Pufnstuf and must evade the villainous Witchiepoo. What a concept! And I agree with your well drawn comic — there was magic in that flute — magic drugs!

I agree it’s a walk down memory lane. What a bizarre show that was. What made you decide to draw that one?

I agree these people had to be on crack or smoking weed when this was created. Super bizarre.
