High Noon (1952)

Oscar: This is a great western starring, Gary Cooper. It also stars Grace Kelly and Lloyd Bridges. I love westerns and this is a good one.. Cooper is fantastic as a quiet man who just wants to live his life in peace but peace cannot be found anywhere near him… His integrity leads him back to a town he was leaving to go on his honeymoon but he gets thrust into conflict early on and has to make some hard choices. He finds himself threatened by a group of outlaws and the decisions he must make according to his character gets him shunned by almost everyone in the story. The film is in black and white which adds to the western era scenery for me.

Emmy: Meh…westerns are not my cup of tea. I watched some of it with Oscar then decided to do anything else. I cannot really chime in as far as giving opinion to this film as I watched about 30 seconds of it!! If you like westerns, this is probably a good one but for those who do not… let the ones who do enjoy!!

Gary Cooper, full of self-righteousness and puffed up morality, let’s it get the better of him by ditching his bride (none other than the beautiful Grace Kelly) to fight it out in some hick town against the man and his gang he put away some years back. He should have ridden off into the sunset with the lovely Kelly (a Quaker who didn’t believe in violence) and start a new life as a shopkeeper. No one in hicksville wanted to help this ageing ex-sheriff. Why should they risk their lives when after all, they had quite liked the gunslinger Cooper put behind bars. So, here we have it. Cooper is by himself, waiting for this bloke, Frank, and his Firm to ruck up at mid-day. It’s all a bit ridiculous of course. One man, who was actually 51 years old, up against four lean and mean gunmen. Strangely, they arrived on foot from the station, not on horses because if they had been on horses Gary Cooper would have been a dead ‘un. Just can’t see what all the fuss is about this movie. That being said, loved the comic. I wish the mooning was part of the movie. Woulda been hilarious.

Don’t get me wrong Teeny..I appreciate the thought very much.. ❤ But there is Mort..then other MAD artists..then amateurs (like me) Tom Richmond is who I think (and many others do too) has been Mr. Drucker’s next in line!! Tom is a SUPER cool guy in real life as well…met him at a Caricature event back in 2005 I think it was and he is a super personable and very nice man..really uplifting of other artists. He told me I should buy a Mort Drucker drawing (made for Mad) … it was a ‘Broken Arrow’ movie parody and I think heaven aligned with the idea as the piece was being sold at a Las Vegas caricature convention and I won the money last minute on a poker machine! A VERY prized possession. THANK YOU TOM!!!
